For several decades, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) have been generally agreed as harmful for the environment. Legislation began appearing in the United States as early as 1963 (The Clean Air Act) to combat VOCs.
Part of the intent of Canada's Clean Air Act legislation is to reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odourous, potentially irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and well-being of installers and occupants, as well as reducing the impact of the contaminents on the ozone layer.
